Back on its 4th year, the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs is a writing project that brings together bloggers from all around the country to recognize fresh blogs that has the potential to influence the blogosphere. The Top 10 blogs are chosen by fellow bloggers who vote on their picks by simply blogging about them. As a new blogger myself, I decided to participate and list down my picks for this year’s Top 10. Are you tired of the word ‘blog’ yet?
Truth be told, I had a very hard time looking for blogs to put on my list. There were a lot of good ones out there that it became difficult to narrow it down to just ten. I looked at content and based on how personal and friendly the blogger writes. In terms of design, I also gave preference to blogs that didn’t have the magazine-type of layout because it looks stiff and mechanical to me. I also checked how regular the blog is updated. Soooo…. finally, here are my nominees for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2010!
01. When In Manila – This is a blog that features a lot of upcoming events and showcases places to visit when you are in Manila. Not only does it talk about events and such, it also showcases the best places for shopping, food and dining, spas, sporting events and other outdoor activities. Not only is this blog useful for us living in the Metro but for tourists as well who might be looking for a few tips in surviving a night or two in Manila.
02. The Thirsty Blogger – One of the main reasons I follow this blog is due of my search for the best Milk Tea and Green Tea in town. I initially thought that it’s primarily a blog for alcoholics, but as it turns out, it talks about all kinds of beverages. We already have enough food blogs out there so having a drink blog is something fresh, I believe.
03. Facebuko – Hands down, this blog is genius! Started in July of 2009, it suddenly became a hit because of the blog’s similar design to Facebook and due to the fact that it plays around with the most popular celebrities and icons in Philippine society. If you have the Filipino sense of humor, this blog won’t fail to make you belt out a laugh or two.
04. The Dam Nation – Okay. This is because I am a HUGE American Idol and Glee fan that I decided to include this blog on my list. Not only is it updated regularly with recaps and reviews of the said shows, it also has all this content that big fans like me would enjoy reading. Might I add that the first thing I noticed with the blog is that the images used are also edited very well? If you ask me, this is the ultimate local blog for your regular American Idol and Glee fix. And if you’re not a fan of those shows, there are occasional movie reviews as well.
05. Paolodome Edge – Another blog that satisfies my love for reality competitions, Paolodome is regularly updated with recaps and news from shows like America’s Next Top Model and American Idol, as well as local competitions like Pilipinas Got Talent. As someone who doesn’t have time to actually watch these shows when they air in the Philippines, I always find myself going to this blog for a very opinionated episode summary, especially for ANTM.
06. Project 52 Weeks – We’ve all wondered how these people behind these blogs are all like in person (or maybe it’s just me?) So seeing these videos, oozing with charm and revealing the personality of real bloggers who I haven’t met before, is genius. There are already tons of Project 365 blogs out there and this is the first time I saw one for videos. And they’re not your usual artsy short films but actual experiences which makes it more endearing, in my opinion.
07. Tara Na! - It’s hard to find an upcoming food and travel blog these days because most of the really good ones have been up for years already. However, the reason I am nominating this blog is because most of the places the blogger talked about is totally unknown to me! As in I had no idea such places existed, especially her explorations in Tagaytay. The blog itself is very endearing because of how Erica writes–very warm and friendly. Plus, the design does not look stiff and mechanical like the other food blogs I’ve seen which makes Tara-Na very friendly to first-time visitors.
08. Manila Concert Scene – How can I forget the people who brought Dashboard Confessional here in the Manila?! For that alone, this nomination is well worth it. This blog has continuously provided updated information on the acts that they will be bringing to the Philippines including photos from press conferences, fans, venue, and everything else you need to know for that concert you’re attending.
09. Manila Shopaholic – What can I say? I love to shop! I think it’s nice to find a blog whose niche is to provide information on the latest bazaars and sales and feature upcoming entrepreneurs. I think this is a blog to watch out for! I truly believe that this has the potential to be the go-to blog for everything you need to know about shopping.
10. The Creative Dork – I have debated over and over again whether I should nominate myself for this writing project. Modesty aside, I believe that this blog has content that is a little different from the other blogs out there. Yes, it is fairly new, but given time I know that I have content that will be helpful in the blogosphere and also to all the frustrated artists out there.
