The busy life of procrastinating

It’s no longer a secret to my close friends that procrastinating is already second nature to me next to cramming. In fact, I am so aware that it’s the main reason I’m not as successful as I want to be and that there’s very little chance I could actually reach my goal because I can’t get things done.

I can remember vividly that I made my entire thesis project in college 2 nights before the deadline (And still got a 4.0! Woot!). It was a 40-page children’s storybook about kids with imaginary friends done for 48 hours straight. I’ve even labeled myself a professional crammer due to my uncanny ability to rush everything in a short amount of time.

Wait, Plan, Plan

I attended a self-help seminar a few months ago and it was pointed out there that I am a Thinker. Basically, Thinkers are people who are always open to new ideas and concepts, always willing to experiment and plan, but they don’t get things done unlike the Doers. I want to be more like Barney Stinson and not Ted Mosby. After realizing this, I told myself that I will strive to become a doer, or better yet, a thinker who gets things done!

I’ve always been a hardcore practitioner of living in the moment. The downside to that is my idea of ‘living in the moment‘ does not require moving a lot (e.g. sleeping, eating, watching t.v., resting, lounging… you get the idea). It’s not really about being lazy per se, I’d like to think that I am carefully planning everything before I actually do it. Therefore, when I do it, I do it fast. Hahahaha.

Blame it on the internet

If you’ve read my previous comic strip, it’s actually sort of true in my case. I sometimes find myself regularly checking back to all of my social accounts just to see if there are any updates and it’s really pretty sad. It’s hard for me to accept the fact that these kind of websites don’t update every 5 minutes. Hahahaha. It’s not even enough for me that I had to make a Tumblr account and that’s where I found myself wasting every minute of my life.

What people don’t realize is that being a true-blue procrastinator is hard! You get emotionally drained, psychologically tuned out, physically weak, and intellectually challenged for doing absolutley nothing! And at the end of the day you’ll hate yourself for it, but you know very well that it’s the same thing you’ll be doing the next day.

Now, I know I’ve said this a billion times, but I intend to be pro-active from now on! I’m guilty for stagnating the past couple of years since graduating from college but since I finally have the motivation and inspiration to keep creating more stuff, I am ready to get my life back on track and kick procrastination on it’s ass!

It’s funny that we are the same, I always procrastinate. It doesn’t really feel good sometimes though, as what you said, it’s really hard. I mean extremely hard in my case ’cause I am still studying.

Oh and the internet! Gees, I hate the fact that it’s true.

    wow. new lay-out!
yeah, procrastination is just so fun. I always have a workplan and time table and all those stuff but I always end up not following it at all.

yeah you’re right with “living the moment” idea. it’s just so hard to keep the momentum of work up and kickin’ alive. There will be this day when you’re totally drained and just want to stop. But it’s good to hear you’re ready to be back on track!

PS: I want to be Robin Scherbatsky. haha!

Wahahaha! I can relate dun sa puro plan lang talaga at walang nagagawa. Maybe you’re a Thinker, too?

Actually, I agree with you on the momentum thing.

Hehehehe.

Cramming and procrastination go well together hehe. True they are not very very admirable traits but with those two, you can prove to the world your versatility and wit.

Pero phew maybe like you, I grew up having those two. I may live with them for the rest of my life. Hope not. :))

    • Robbie
      Posted July 6, 2010 at 1:04 am | Permalink

      Yes they do. :D
They both coexist with each other. Hey I like how you say that they express someone’s versatility and wit ha. I’ll look at it that way form now on. :)

I can somewhat relate, but the good thing is I managed to break that kind of habit. Now I plan things ahead and make schedules. I also make sure that I follow them religiously. It was hard at first, but in the end it was also good for my self-discipline.

    • Robbie
      Posted July 6, 2010 at 1:07 am | Permalink

Good for you! Procrastination is such a hard habit to break. A lot of people in this generation lack self-discipline and high E.Q. kasi. Wahahaha.

Dumadami na tayo kuya robbie. hahaha.

Last summer nung nagiinternship ako, I was given a task by my boss to rebrand their company. I was given a month to do the project. In the first 3 weeks, all I did was think, think, think. I didn’t write anything down. The day before the deadline, saka ko ginawa. I started at 5Am at natapos ako ng 7am. A month’s work was finished in two hours. Sabi ko, ok lang kahit pangit. Nakakatamad na e. Bahala na kung di maabsorb.

Nung pinasa ko na, my boss called me at sinabi, nagustuhan nya daw. Natawa ako. Di nya alam kanina ko lang ginawa. :))))))))

Anyway, pareho tayo. Mas gusto ko ding nakaupo nalang at nag-iisip ng magandang status update kesa magpapawis sa gym o s court o saan man. haha. tapos tutulog na. lol :)))) apir!

Bwahahaha!!! Cramming is the best mehn! Actually it works din… yung matagal mong iisipin lang kung papano gagawin tapos pag andyan na ilalabas mo bigla yung dormant energy tapos BAM ang galing galing lang. Wahahaha!

  17. Posted July 6, 2010 at 3:03 am | Permalink

promise, i’ll read this later. hehe. try reading Getting Things Done by David Allen. Apparently when you procrastinate, you build up a lot of psychic baggage and you become stressed (which makes you want to just lie down and procrastinate some more). vicious cycle.

Hehehe. Sige I’ll try to grab a copy of that book.
I agree on the psychic baggage shit. Sobrang nakaka-stress talaga kapag bum ka magdamag. Grrrr.
