Works in Progress – 071810

Once again, I feel like I’ve neglected the ‘Illustration & Design‘ aspect of this blog where I’m supposedly going to document my so-called progress as an illustrator. For the past 2 years, I haven’t been able to come up with a lot of personal works because of my work, but now I’m free to focus on new career where I can draw as much as I want!

Currently, I am starting on a bunch of personal projects, one being a solo exhibit on November. The piece above is a preview of what I’ve been working on since last week called From Under the Dork Tree, inspired from Fall Out Boy’s album title. Hahaha.

Sutan the Sunshine Man

I really didn’t set a theme for the exhibit other than the unifying fact that they are produced in celebration of my escape from the corporate world. Each work would depict characters and elements that have contributed to my life in general presented through fun and quirky pop images. ‘Sutan the Sunshine Man‘, pictured above, is a second piece I’ve been working on.

The exhibit, which I plan to call ‘Ordinary Revolutionaries in My Pants‘, would feature 24 works printed on 10″ x 10″ inch Bevania paper and will each be mounted on wood. So far, the overall logistics like venue, date, etcetera, are still on the works. I’m also looking for people who would sponsor it so if you know anybody interested, it would be greatly appreciated. =)

I’m also working on some stock illustrations to be sold at Shutterstock or iStock Photo. I figured that money can also be generated from those websites and it’s a good opportunity for me to put my work out there and earn from it as well.

The drawings above are the first two batches of illustrations to start up my account. Safari animals and their chibi counterparts. I hope to finish these within the week so I could start selling them.

Katy Perry

And aside from those, I’m also keeping myself occupied by drawing things on a whim. Like a caricature of Katy Perry’s California Gurls. In case you want to be constantly updated with my work, you can follow me in my Tumblr account. It’s regularly updated with new and old work from me.

Oh, and before I forget! I’ll be having another contest soon where the winner will get a free caricature from me. Wait for it!

I don’t know about sponsorship, I’m not sure if Joel Mendez sponsors but I’ve seen my cousin’s paintings in his gallery at Megamall. You can probably approach him when you see him? Hehe

I’ll be at your exhibition just name the date! A caricature of me or khikhi is going to look great on my blog so I’m looking forward to that contest… please let me win please please haha

Hahaha. Hindi ako masyadong confident sa mga ganyang bagay dahil feeling ko mas prioritized ang fine art at traditional medium eh. Kaya feeling ko mas mahihirapan ako kumuha ng sponsors at maghanap ng venue. Hehehe.

Oooh I dig your illustrations! Btw, do you draw them first on paper then scan them or draw them directly on Illustrator using your graphic tablet?

    • Robbie
      Posted July 19, 2010 at 6:48 am | Permalink

      Hey Charles. Thanks!
For these ones, I drew them directly on Illustrator. (:

      • Posted July 23, 2010 at 4:22 am | Permalink

That’s cool. Btw, I do suck when it comes to colouring in Illustrator being that I just started using it for almost a year now. Do you know any sites with tips to get some neat colouring effects on Illustrator rather than in Photoshop?

  10. Posted July 19, 2010 at 1:21 am | Permalink

Grabe I am so amazed with your work! Those animals are just adorable! I LOVE the colouring technique!!!

Also, question: for the faces under your FRIENDS category, did you draw them? Ang cute e!!!
