Community rocks!

Community is a relatively new TV comedy series that debuted last September 2009 and I was only able to watch the entire first season in 2 days last week! And you know what? It’s hands down one of the funniest things I’ve seen on T.V. in a looooong time. Well, granted I stopped watching T.V. 3 years ago and have resorted to watching them online, but you get my point.

Out of curiosity, I watched a few scenes from the series on YouTube and was impressed enough to download the first two episodes to check if it’s entertaining. I ended up watching the entire season in 2 days! The comedy is so fresh and random, just the way I like it. Way to go Dan Harmon!

The premise is about a suspended lawyer, Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale of The Soup), who has to go study  at a local community college where he unintentionally builds a study group full of misfits in order to sleep with the hot blonde from Spanish class, Britta (Gillian Jacobs). The study group eventually becomes legit and we are left with a whole season of hilarity from an unlikely cast of quirky characters.

Now, ever since FRIENDS and Will & Grace ended, I never thought I would find another comedy series to love. Arrested Development came and I was hooked, but they cancelled the show way too early after only 3 seasons. And that’s how Michael Cera and his deadpan character started happening. How I Met Your Mother was fine at first, but I got bored. It’s humor was more of a ‘hehehe’ than a ‘hahaha’, if you know what I mean. And I’m hooked on Glee more on the song performances and character storylines than the humor. Oh, and Cougar Town in really funny din pala.

But with Community, holy mother father sheep I am almost always literally laughing out loud! It’s like an “Oh my heck, I can’t believe he just said that!” type of humor because the characters are soooo playing out the stereotypes well. My favorite characters would have to be Abed, Senor Chang, and the Dean who looks like Moby. Hahaha.

The best study group you will ever meet.

Watch the trailer and see for yourself if the humor is right up in your alley! Season 2 is set to premiere on September 23, 2 weeks after the Season 2 opening of Glee! Which gives you ample time to watch Season 1!

What are your favorite comedy series?

Hmmm…. I don’t think I will like Sherlock based on the previews. Monk is still the best detective series for me. Hehehe.

  4. Posted August 12, 2010 at 1:24 pm | Permalink

Agree with Dam, Modern Family is a laugh riot for me.

Also try The Big Bang Theory, it’s a little geeky with a lot of wink-wink insider jokes but if you’ve ever watched a single sci-fi tv episode or movie this might be right up your alley. ^_^

I can’t resist but share. Terry Pratchett’s Discworld book series also make me giggle uncontrollable which is why his books have the prime spot in my bookshelf. I recommend Good Omens for a first read.

I’ll check out Community this weekend. Thanks for the tip!

Hahaha. Okay downloading the pilot episode now. Also Bing Bang, kaso I’m not sure I would be able to relate that much since I don’t watch sci-fi stuff.

Those books, are they humor ones ba?

      • Posted August 12, 2010 at 6:29 pm | Permalink

Fantasy books. Incredibly smart and funny. ^_^ I have almost all of his books and they’re also available as e-books. You can download them for “free”. Just search him on btjunkie.org.

Ooooh sige thanks for the suggestion there! =)

Pratchett’s English right? They always have a different brand of humor compared to Americans.
I have a paperback copy of Good Omens by my bedside right now, can’t wait to read it! But I have to finish my current book first.

Hmmm..thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check this one out. [torrent here I come :D] Yeah, same sympathy for “Arrested Development”, I miss that show, as well as Micheal Cera and Jason Bateman and that Blue guy David Cross. :D. For I would suggest “CHUCK” from NBC [if it suits u, try ugly betty? hehe :D]

Wahahaha the blue guy was one crazy character! I seriously miss that show.

Madami rin nagsasabi na maganda yung Chuck but I have yet to watch it. Also yung Ugly Betty, it was nice nung first season pero nung upcoming seasons it got pretty tacky, IMO. heheh.

i seldom watch TV, and if I do, nakikinuod lang ako sa mga teleserye na pinapanuod ng mom ko hehehe. maybe it’s about time na humabol ako sa sibilisasyon at manuod ng Glee? haha, isang episode palang ang napanuod ko at silip lang, di ko napanuod from start to finish. Kelangan ko matuto ng time management haha, so many things I wanna do with so little time!

Wow really? Well, madaming magagandang series actually. Pero I find Glee the most relatable. =)

Nobody has mentioned Accidentally on Purpose so far. It stars Jenna Elfman (from Dharma and Greg), and I’d rather not spoil the storyline :P It’s not THE most laugh out loud sitcoms out there but it’s right up my alley.
Other sitcoms I love were already mentioned: The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town.
My opinion: TBBT > HIMYM = AoP > CT. Am I making sense? Lol.
Thanks for this heads up, I have a new sitcom to look forward to. Yey!

Hmmm. I’ve seen Accidentally on Purpose sa commercials sa Star World but I haven’t actually took the time to watch it. I find those type of comedies so-so lang kasi eh.

I saw the pilot episode na of BBT and yeah it’s really funny. Might have to get a copy of all 3 seasons na. =D

      • Posted August 14, 2010 at 9:11 am | Permalink

what do you mean exactly by “those types of comedies”? ;))

anyway, were you able to get the DVD copy of BBT already? I usually download stuff overnight if I know it takes a long time. The following morning, voila! Several episodes completed!

Hahaha. I mean the relationship type of comedies. Parang Dharma&Greg, basta yung mga bf/gf type. Hehehe. They make me laugh a little lang. Hehehe.

  8. Posted August 12, 2010 at 8:50 pm | Permalink

To be perfectly honest, I am not a big fan of comedy tv. Iba kase talaga ang atake ng mga Amerikano sa pagpapatawa. Anyway, I think this series is hilarious, I love Joel McHale. Modern Family is even more outrageous. Hehe

    • Posted August 13, 2010 at 12:05 am | Permalink

so you hate the way american comedies make you laugh?

      • Posted August 13, 2010 at 5:56 am | Permalink

No, I hate the way they throw their lines. For me it’s cheesy sometimes, just SOMETIMES.

I actually think that the Americans have the best comedic timing out of everyone. I grew up watching American sitcoms so my sense of humor is based on those shows.

Pinoy sitcoms are sooooooooo dull and gasgas na and very disappointing.

          • Posted August 13, 2010 at 2:41 pm | Permalink

i’m not even loving Filipno comedic timing, it’s even more cheesy. ewan ko ba kung san ako natutuwa, depende na lang siguro sa mood din.

Actually Philippine comedy is not cheesy at all. It’s just plain NOT funny. With the exception for Kimmy Dora and Here Comes the Bride. Hahaha. Those were brilliant.

In Courgar Town’s commercial on Star Movies, for some reason I cannot comprehend, I always laugh when Courtney Cox’s character says “Really? .. I mean, REALLY?!” after her son tells him high school kids steal her ads to pleasure themselves. Hehehe.

Sobrang patok sakin ang Cougar Town eh. The characters are very interesting and soooo well-played. I know other may not find it amusing since I myself needed some time to adjust to the personality of the characters. Pero seriously, once you ‘get to know’ them, sobrang saya niya. Hahahaha.
