Fuerza Bruta: Look up!

I remember vividly how I was so captivated by the photos captured in an episode of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10. Tyra said the shoot was inspired from a travelling show called Fuerza Bruta, where girls would jump flat on top of this transparent fiberglass surface that’s suspended on top of the audience with only a shallow pool of water to cushion each collision. So when I received an invite to watch the opening night of the said show last February 14, I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

Waiting for the show to start.

It was pure luck that I got an invite. When I arrived at the tent, the organizers told me to wait a while and enjoy some drinks as the main event would start in an hour. One by one, bigwigs in the metro started arriving and I felt a little out of place since I am not used to that kind of crowd… or any crowd for that matter. The introvert inside started kicking in as I just sat and stared at the crowd.

The running man

A few minutes after 8:00 in the evening, we were told to gather inside. I didn’t really know what to expect and was a little taken aback when I saw nothing there. There weren’t any seats and it felt like we were inside a huge warehouse. Once everyone was there, we were briefed that we would be moving along with the show which explains why everyone was required to stand.

The show started with a very handsome guy walking on an elevated conveyor belt that’s being pulled by several men to the middle of the tent. He then started running, then wind started blowing, then there was a gunshot, and all the other shiz started from there like a real live dream sequence happening right in front of you. That’s probably the best way to explain the entire show as it was so surreal as scenes don’t necessarily connect with one another.

But the highlight of the entire show would have to be the scantily-clad girls diving and swimming on top of the clear pool that’s hanging above the audience. It was enchanting. Even though my neck was already sore from looking up for several minutes, it was still a sight that I couldn’t seem to look away from and it seemed like everyone else felt the same.

Directly translated as ‘brute force’, the show really strikes you straight in the face as a 3d experience that will play with all of your five senses. These guys must be pretty to have such awesome jobs travelling the world singing and dancing and splashing on some pool for people to marvel at.

Everybody loved what these ladies were doing but the crowd got more enthused when the pool started lowering itself down close enough for the audience to touch the bottom and get a little more up close and personal with the girls. And when I say up close, I mean you can see their boobs and butts gliding across your face. Something to look forward to for the guys, but I wish there were some men doing it also. Hahaha.

I took a LOT of photos and videos but I decided not to post everything. Aside from the fact that it won’t do the show any justice because it’s something that you just have to experience first hand, I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun to those who are planning to see it live. It’s an interactive show where the ‘actors’ would go through the crowd and randomly pick people and smash things on their heads and encouraging the crowd to dance with them.

Peek-a-boo!

This post-modern theater show originated in Buenos Aires and is currently travelling all over the world and now they are making a stop at the Manila Hotel Tent until March 26 of 2012. Obviously, something as uniquely entertaining spectacle like this don’t come cheap as ticket prices come P2,500 on weekdays and P3,500 during weekend shows.

From Monday to Thursday, they have shows during 8:00 in the evening while an additional 11:00 pm show is also available on Fridays and Saturdays. You may find out more info about Fuerza Bruta by visiting www.hoopla.ph or checking out their Facebook Page or by following them on Twitter.
